This is what happens to filmmakers that submit their film to the SFF-rated Athens Intl Sci-fi & Fantasy Film Festival: they may end up being part of a dvd-collection full of great SFF-shorts!

To celebrate our first four years, and to fulfill a wish we had from the very beginning, here is a double dvd including some of the best shorts screened in SFF-rated’s 2006-2009 editions.

17 shorts, 3 hours of exciting, entertaining and thought-provoking film-making! Greek and English subtitles are available in the dvd, for all films.

If you like it, we will continue producing these dvd-collections -and this time we won’t wait another four years. Go on then, order your copy. Your one copy please, this is also a collectors’ item. As to where your money goes: after covering production costs, all revenues go to the filmmakers that gave us these magnificent shorts.

Οι πολύ περισσότερες υποψηφιότητες για το SFF-rated 2010 δημιουργούν πρόσθετες ανάγκες σε χρόνο: οι τελικές επιλογές για το πρόγραμμα προβολών θα ολοκληρωθούν γύρω στις 25 Ιανουαρίου. Στο ενδιάμεσο, κάποιοι από εσάς θα έχουν λάβει ευχάριστα νέα και κάποιοι όχι. Όμως ευχαριστούμε όλους για τη συμμετοχή.

Foreign Correspondence: It’s a simple equation: you sent us more, much more, films, we need a little more time – 15 days to be exact, in order to complete the σelection process for SFF-rated 2010 around January 25. In the menatime, some of you will have received the good news, and some the not-so-good. Again, we thank you all.

We were silent for more than a while… this is because  for the SFF-rated 2010, more than 400 short films & features were submitted, three times more than for the 2009 edition. Thanks everybody for your interest and your support of SFF-rated, but as usual, as the numbers grow, good and bad things happen:

THE BAD THINGS: This year we won’t be able to reply personally to all of you who submitted but won’t finally make it to the SFF-rated screenings. So remember, a rejection has more to do with our aesthetic decisions rather than with yours. With our preconceptions and desires for our festival rather with how well thought and shot was your movie. Everybody is welcome to try again for the 2011 edition. We’ ll be around.

THE GOOD THINGS: How about, more variety, more countries, higher quality? It’s going to be really tough to arrive at our final slate, but it should (and will) be the best SFF-rated so far.

Άραγε, το Μεγάλο Φεστιβάλ (της Δράμας, εννοείται) της χώρας μας για τις ταινίες μικρού μήκους , είχε φέτος ταινίες Φανταστικού; Ρητορική η ερώτηση, αλλά δεν μπορούμε να υποβάλουμε τις ταινίες μόνοι μας στους εαυτούς μας! Εμπρός λοιπόν, το παλιό καλό ταχυδρομείο είναι ακόμη μια Φανταστική εμπειρία.

Update 29/9/2009: The Greek Post managed to find the dvd mentioned below, and it was delivered to us. So no problem, no need to do anything on the matter.

ORIGINAL POST: We have received notification from the Greek Post to go pick up an envelope sent from the US by REGISTERED MAIL. We went, but they couldn’t find the package. It has entered Greece but then got lost.

The Registered Mail number is RR 43 23 42 489 US.

US Submitters, we apologize on behalf of our Postal Service. You can go to your local postal service with your receipt and ask them to file a formal query with the Greek Post – there may be idemnification, since it was a registered mail.

Submission period will be open for 3 more months, so you may wait a while in case the package is found, before you re-send your film.

H πρώτη περίοδος υποβολών έληξε στις 31 Αυγούστου, και φέτος οι υποβολές υποψηφιοτήτων ήταν σχεδόν 3πλάσιες απ’ ό,τι πέρισυ για την ίδια περίοδο, κάτι στο οποίο συνέβαλλε σημαντικά και η συνεργασία μας το www.reelport com, παράλληλα με το www.withoutabox.com. Αυτό σημαίνει ήδη από τώρα μεγαλύτερη ποικιλία, περισσότερες χώρες και κινηματογραφικές νοοτροπίες, ακόμη καλύτερο πρόγραμμα προβολών τον Μάρτιο του 2010… ενώ το SFF-rated 2010 θα δέχεται υποβολές υποψηφιοτήτων τανιών μικρού και μεγάλου μήκους για 3 μήνες ακόμη.

Foreign Correspondence: Early Bird submission period ended with almost three times more submissions than last year’s corresponding submission period. Thanks everybody for the (vastly)increased interest, it means something to us… and to our audience. Submission period will be open for another three months, meaning we will be drowning in films, if the trend continues. So please, make it continue.
