Dead again, alive once more

Δύο χρόνια χαθήκαμε. Το φεστιβάλ δεν έγινε το 2015. Οι πιο κοντινοί ξέρουν το γιατί, αλλά ας ενημερώσουμε όλους έσας που επιμένετε να ρωτάτε “πότε θα γίνει το φεστιβάλ”: χάσαμε δύο μέλη της ομάδας μας λόγω καρκίνου, με διαφορά λίγων μηνών. Ο πρώτος που έφυγε ήταν ο Σπύρος Βρετός, υπεύθυνος για τα μικρά ευφυή γραπτά κείμενα που παρουσίαζαν τις μικρού μήκους ταινίες του φεστιβάλ. Ο δεύτερος, ήταν ο Άγγελος Μαστοράκης, εμπνευστής του SFF-rated ATHENS, Καλλιτεχνικός του Διευθυντής και  ακούραστος εθελοντής του. Ο Άγγελος πέθανε πριν ένα μήνα (δείτε εδώ μια λίστα συνδέσμων με αφορμή το θανατό του – Μανώλη πολλές ευχαριστίες). Θα ήθελα να μπορούσα να πω ότι ο Άγγελος μου άφησε ευχή και κατάρα να συνεχίσω το SFF-rated ATHENS, αλλά θα έλεγα ψέματα. Η αλήθεια είναι πως αυτός είναι ο τρόπος μου για να διατηρήσω ανοιχτά τα κανάλια επικοινωνίας με τον καλύτερό μου φίλο.

Nάμαστε λοιπόν: Νεκροί ξανά, ζωντανοί για άλλη μια φορά: το 10ο SFF-rated ATHENS θα διεξαχθεί τον Οκτώβριο του 2016. Ο Σπύρος θα γράψει τα κείμενά του, κι ο Άγγελος θα διαλέξει ταινίες, θα επιβλέψει την παραγωγή, θα γκρινιάζει για το κάθε τι και γενικά θα φροντίζει να γίνουν όλα όπως πρέπει. Μην ρωτάτε πως θα συμβεί αυτό -απλά φανταστείτε το. Γιατί αυτό μπορούμε και κάνουμε στο SFF-rated ATHENS: δημιουργούμε πράγματα μέσω της φαντασίας.

Angelo Mastorakis, Spyros Vretos, R.I.P

Foreign correspondence proper: Do the math (which is a very imaginative science by the way). For two years, this blog was silent. SFF-rated Athens did not run in 2015. We got tired, you think. Or we were hit by the deep socio-economic crisis that is suffocating our country, or both. Wrong. We got hit alright, but, to make a long and agonizing story short, we got hit by cancer. We lost two of our members to the same kind of inoperable cancer. First went Spyros Vretos, the cunning fellow who teased your brains out with his ingenious written introductions to our short films. He beat (to death) Angelo Mastorakis, co-founder of this festival, its Art Director and hard-working volunteer throughout. Angelo left us a month ago. I would like to be able to say that on his deathbed, his dying wish and curse to me was to continue this festival, but I would be lying. Rather, making SFF-rated ATHENS alive -and kicking- again, is my way of keeping open the communication channels with my best friend.

So here you have it:Dead again, alive once more: the 10th SFF-rated ATHENS will run in October 2016. Spyros will be writing his short pieces of course, and Angelo will select films, supervise production, boss me around and in general guarantee that everything runs smoothly. Don’t ask me how they will do this -just Imagine it. Because this is what we can and do here: Imagine things to existence.
