SFF-rated 2008 Day 2

Going strong. The Japanese fifties film “The Mysterians”, part of our retrospective on ’50s sci-fi feature films, was the one the audience applauded most. The bar and the absinth stand continued to work hard.

Tommorrow, we go into the land of Ghosts & Monsters: The last ’50s feature “I Married a Monster from Outer Space”, 8 short films with as much variety as one can ask for, but rallying around these two beings (the ghost & the monster), and last but not least the great “Call of Cthulhu”. It will be a night that we will forget forever -night after night.

SFF-rated 2008 Ημέρα 1η

Όλα πήγαν καλά την πρώτη μέρα, είναι το μόνο που προλαβαίνω να σας γράψω. Οι προβολές κύλησαν χωρίς κανένα τεχνικό πρόβλημα, και το μπαρ και το Αψέντι stand δούλεψαν σκληρά (οπότε κάτι καταλαβαίνετε για τον κόσμο που ήρθε).

Επειδή μας αρέσουν οι εκπλήξεις, μας εκπλήξαμε αποφασίζοντας να κάνουμε μια προβολή-έκπληξη μιας κα-τα-πλη-κτι-κής ταινίας μικρου-μικρού μήκους, κατά προτίμηση απόψε. Οπότε, τρέχουμε τώρα, θα ειδωθούμε το βράδυ και θα τα ξαναπούμε αύριο.

SFF-rated 2008 Day 1

Everyhting went swell, it’s the only thing I have the time to write to you. All screenings went smoothly, and the bar and the absinth stand worked hard (I give you this as an indication of the attandance levels).

Since we like to make it difficult for ourselves, we surprised them (ourselves) today, by surprisingly deciding to have a surprise-screening of a great short-short film. Preferably, today. So we run now. See you tonight, talk to you tomorrow.

Αφιέρωμα για το SFF-rated στο περιοδικό “9″

Το περιοδικό Κόμικς & Επιστημονικής Φαντασίας “9″ που κυκλοφορεί μαζί με την εφ. Ελευθεροτυπία, και είναι χορηγός του SFF-rated, θα δημοσιεύσει την Τε 2/4/2008 3σελιδο αφιέρωμα στο φεστιβάλ. Χαρτογραφείται η 3ετής πορεία του φεστιβάλ, αλλά και οι αφανείς, δόλιες και συνομωσιολογικές αιτίες που οδήγησαν την ΑΛΕΦ στη διοργάνωση του SFF-rated. Aναμένεται παρέμβαση του εισαγγελέα αλλά και της Αρχής Προστασίας Προσωπικών Δεδομένων, εφόσον προλάβουν να ανταλλάξουν όσα υπηρεσιακά απαιτούνται προκειμένου να διευκρινισθουν τα όρια αρμοδιοτήτων της κάθε υπηρεσίας.

Όπως κάνουμε κάθε χρόνο, το θέμα της αφίσας επιλέχθηκε από τις ταινίες που θα προβληθούν στο φεστιβάλ - και ειλικρινά, μόλις είδαμε αυτή τη photo από το “SIMULACRA” του Tatchapon Lertwirojkul, ξέραμε ότι δύσκολα θα διαλέγαμε κάποια άλλη.

Let me tell you: the moment we saw this picture from Tatchapon Lertwirojkul’s  “SIMULACRA”, we were almost certain that no other could compete… and no other could, indeed. Thanks Tatch.

SFF-rated 2008 The Audience AWARD

We believe that festivals happen because there exist artists that create works of art, and people that want to communicate with them (the works of art, that is). That’s why in SFF-rated we have one award only: The Audience Award. This year, it is accompanied by a 500 euro cash prize. But how exactly is the Award to be awarded? 

Both on the Saturday 12/4 screening “Ghosts & Monstres” as well as on Sunday 13/4 (see previous post on Screening Scedule), we will hand out to the audience a questionnaire that will contain only one question, to be answered for every short: 

“Would you view this film for a second time?” YES - NO.

 You see, we like straight answres. To the maybes, ah…s, perhapses, it was okays, don’t know yets etc, we say NO. We ask for your final opinion, not for your internal negotiations in order to arrive at one.  

Inbetween the shorts, the lights of the theater will go up for a few seconds, in order to clean your eyes for the next -and usually totally different- short. We suggest that during this informal break, you answer the question for the short that just ended. After all, it is not a question that requires from you to compare movies. 

Saturday questionnaires will be collected before the feature “Call of Cthulhu”. 

Sunday questionnaires will be collected just after the end of the Competition screenings. While we will be going about them, the Official Guest of the festival, the documentary “THE LAST LINE”, will screen.

Immediately afterwards, we will announce the five shorts that proved to be the most popular, and we will screen again the winner.

That’s the deal. Make it count. 

2008 -Το Βραβείο Κοινού

Πιστεύουμε ότι τα φεστιβάλ γίνονται επειδή υπάρχουν καλλιτέχνες που δημιουργούν έργα τέχνης και άνθρωποι που θέλουν να τα γνωρίσουν και να συμβάλλουν στην ανάδειξή τους. Έτσι, στο  SFF-rated δίνουμε ένα μόνο βραβείο: το Βραβείο Κοινού. Φέτος, το Βραβείου Κοινού συνοδεύεται από χρηματικό έπαθλο 500 ευρώ. Αλλά πώς ακριβώς προκύπτει ο νικητής;

Tόσο στην προβολή του Σαββάτου 12/4 “Ghosts & Monsters”, όσο και στο κύριο Διαγωνιστικό της Κυριακής 13/4 θα σας μοιράσουμε ένα ερωτηματολόγιο, το οποίο θα περιέχει μία μόνο ερώτηση, προς απάντηση για κάθε μία ταινία:

“Θα βλέπατε αυτή την ταινία για 2η φορά;” NΑΙ - ΟΧΙ

Βλέπετε μας αρέσουν οι σαφείς απαντήσεις. Στα ίσως, μπορεί, ναι μεν αλλά, έλα μωρέ τρώγεται, μπορεί και όχι, αρκετά καλό, κοκ, λέμε ΟΧΙ. Άλλωστε, ζητάμε την άποψή σας, όχι ενημέρωση για τις εσωτερικές σας διαδικασίες μέχρι να φθάσετε να έχετε άποψη.

Ανάμεσα στις ταινίες, τα φώτα της αίθουσας θα ανάβουν για λίγα δευτερόλεπτα, προκειμένου να βοηθήσουν τα μάτια σας να καθαρίσουν ώστε να δείτε την -συνήθως εντελώς διαφορετική- ταινία που ακολουθεί με φρέσκο μάτι. Σ’ αυτό το διάστημα, προτείνουμε να απαντάτε και στην ερώτηση για την ταινία που τελείωσε. Άλλωστε είναι μια ερώτηση που δεν απαιτεί συγκρίσεις μεταξύ των ταινιών.

Τα ερωτηματολόγια του Σαββάτου θα μαζευτούν στο τέλος της προβολής των Μικρού Μήκους, πριν την έναρξη του Call of Cthulhu.

Τα ερωτηματολόγια της Κυριακής, θα μαζευτούν στο τέλος της προβολής. Κατά το χρονικό διάστημα που θα τα επεξεργαζόμαστε για να προκύψει ο νικητής, θα προβάλλουμε τον Επίσημο Καλεσμένο του SFF-rated, το ντοκιμαντέρ “THE LAST LINE”.

Mόλις τελειώσει, θα ανακοινωθούν οι πρώτες πέντε στις προτιμήσεις σας ταινίες, και ακολούθως θα προβάλλουμε ξανά τη νικητήρια.
