…Ας το θέσουμε ως εξής: και την έβδομη ημέρα, όπως και κάποιος άλλος κάποια άλλη έβδομη ημέρα, χαλαρώσαμε… Έβρεχε καταρρακτωδώς και ήταν η πιο ήσυχη ημέρα του φεστιβάλ. Προβάλλαμε το πρόγραμμά μας, αποχαιρετήσαμε τους σκηνοθέτες από το εξωτερικό που μας είχαν επισκεφτεί, ανακοινώσαμε και επαναπροβάλαμε τις βραβευμένες ταινίες και αρχίσαμε να σκεφτόμαστε για του χρόνου… α, ναι, τα βραβεία: γι αυτά θα πρέπει να κάνετε υπομονή  μερικές ώρες ακόμη.

Let’s put it this way: and on the seventh day, we rested… meaning that it was raining like hell and the last day of the festival was the quietest of them all… we screened our programme, said farewell to our visiting directors, announced and re-played the Audience Awards, and started thinking about next year… ah the awards: that will have to wait a few more hours.

Σήμερα το SFF-rated πρόβαλλε μόνο ταινίες μεγάλου μήκους -και μάλιστα τέσσερις από τις πιο ενδιαφέρουσες του φεστιβάλ κατά την άποψή μου. Φαίνεται ότι κι ο κόσμος συμφωνούσε, διότι η προσέλευση ήταν αντίστοιχη με αυτή του Σαββάτου, κάτι που ξεκαθάρισε μια και καλή το αν το SFF-rated έχει τη δυναμική να διαρκεί μία εβδομάδα (την έχει).

Απόψε η Marya Mazor και ο Ryan Uzilevsky είχαν τις ραδιοφωνικές τους συνεντεύξεις Στο Κόκκινο 105,5 (οι ταινίες τους προβάλλονται την Τετάρτη) ενώ ο Julian Doyle προλόγισε την ταινία του “Ο Αλχημικός Γάμος του Άλιστερ Κρόουλι” και στο τέλος της είχε μια απολαυστική συζήτηση με τον κόσμο.

…και φυσικά απόψε ολοκληρώθηκε η ψηφοφορία για το Βραβείου Κοινού σε Ταινία Μεγάλου Μήκους. Και μόλις τελείωσα την καταμέτρηση. Και είχαμε δραματικές αλλαγές στην κατάταξη, σε σύγκριση με το πώς ήταν τα πράγματα μετά το τέλος των πρώτων προβολών των ταινιών. Κάτι που με τον τρόπο του δικαιώνει την επιλογή να προβάλλουμε εις διπλούν τις ταινίες του διαγωνιστικού.

Αύριο λοιπόν (ή καλύτερα, απόψε) δίνουμε το τελευταίο ραντεβού μας για φέτος, με τις δύο αποχαιρετιστήριες Θεματικές Ζώνες Προβολών Μικρού Μήκους, την δεύτερη προβολή του GRACE, και βέβαια, την ανακοίνωση και επαναπροβολή των βραβευμένων ταινιών μικρού και μεγάλου μήκους.

Tonight was Features only, and in my opinion,  four very good and interesting movies… and people seemed to agree, because they came in numbers equal to those we had  on Saturday night… something that cleared for good the issue of whether SFF-rated has the potential to run for a whole week (it has it, in case you didn’t get the message).

Marya Mazor and Ryan Uzilevsky had their radio interviews tonight in the 105,5 radio (both their shorts screen tomorrow), and Julian Doyle introduced in person his film “Chemical Wedding” and stayed on at the end to answer questions and have a lively conversation with the audience.

…and the voting for the Audience Award for Best Feature ended tonight. And I just finished counting the results. And there were dramatic turns in the positioning of the films compared to what the situation was after the first round of screenings

So we have a date, tomorrow (today, actually), for our two farewel short-film screenings zones, the second screening (as in “second coming”) of Paul Solet’s GRACE… and the announcement and re-play of the one short and the one feature that won the Audience Awards. See you there.

Δευτέρα… όπως έγραψα και σε προηγούμενο post, ήταν  η πρώτη μας 5η ημέρα, η πρώτη μας Δευτέρα… κι εμείς προβάλλαμε επαναλήψεις των μεγάλων μήκους που είχαμε δείξει τις τρεις πρώτες ημέρες, συν μία καινούρια ζώνη μικρού μήκους (Ζεγάρια & Ντουέτα)… οπότε, πού βρέθηκαν όλοι αυτοί που εμφανίστηκαν; Πού ήταν χθες; Δηλαδή το φεστιβάλ δεν εξάντλησε τη δυναμική του στις τέσσερις πρώτες ημέρες;

To αστείο είναι ότι σ’ αυτήν την τόσο κρίσμη στγμή το φεστιβάλ απουσίαζα, έχοντας να συνοδέψω τον Julian Doyle στη συνέντευξη του στον 105,5 Στο Κόκκινο με τον Νίκο Τριανταφυλλίδη,

και μετά για να είμαι οικοδεσπότης σε δείπνο για τους τρεις σκηνοθέτες που ήρθαν για το SFF-rated…

το βράδυ κύλησε θαυμάσια και το κινητό μου δεν χτύπησε ούτε μία φορά -που σημαίνει ότι όλα κύλησαν καλά στον ΜΙΚΡΟΚΟΣΜΟ χωρίς τη δική μου παρουσία. Κι αυτό κάτι σημαίνει.

Τα λέμε αύριο, με τον Julian Doyle να προλογίζει τον Αλχημικό Γάμο του Θηρίου.

Well, it was a Monday, you know…and apart from the “Couples & Duets” short film screening zone, we were screening again some of  the features we screened during the first three days of the festival… so where all this people came from? On a Monday? Where were they the day before?

As I already said in a previous post, this was our first 5th day, this was our first Monday, and we were pretty happy with the people that finally showed up.

And the funny thing is, in this most critical moment or the festival, I was away most of the time, because I had to escort Julian Doyle to the 105,5 radio station for his radio interview with Nikos Triantafyllidis.

-and then, I had to be host to our visiting directors for a not-so-quiet dinner… I had a great time with them and my cell didn’t ring, not once, which means that everything rolled smoothly in the theater. So I have nothing else to report to you from this day…just that things rolled pretty smoothly without any help from me -which is very sobering for me and very good for the festival.

…όταν όμως προβάλλεις παγκόσμιες πρεμιέρες, οι θεοί της αποκλειστικότητας και της ποντικο-τρεχάλας θα σε τιμωρήσουν: έτσι  πρέπει να ομολογήσω ότι οι αποψινοί θεατές δεν φτάνουν τόσο μακριά όσο θα ήθελα (αν βάλεις τον έναν δίπλα στον άλλο εννοώ). Παρ’ όλα αυτά, η 2η και τελευταία ημέρα του Διαγωνιστικού για τις μικρές κερδίζει την προσοχή που της αξίζει, και η βραδιά ολοκληρώνεται με την επαναπροβολή του “Από την Χώρα Των Σκιών”, όπου οι γνώμες εξακολουθούν να διχάζονται τα μάλλα.

Ενδιαμέσως έχουμε  υποδεχθεί τον Julian Doyle, σκηνοθέτη του “Αλχημικού Γάμου του Άλιστερ Κρόουλι”, ο οποίος καταφθάνει ορεξάτος από την Αγγλία και αναρωτιέται γιατί οι συμπατριώτες του δεν μπορούν να καταλάβουν το χιούμορ της ταινίας του. Αύριο θα έχουμε ραδιοφωνική συνέντευξη με τον Τζούλιαν στον 105,5 Στο Κόκκινο, κατά πάσα πιθανότητα στην εκπομπή του Νίκου Τριανταφυλλίδη 20:00 – 21:00.

Αργά το βράδυ, με την 4η ημέρα του φεστιβάλ να έχει οριστικά τελειώσει και την άγνωστη γη να μας περιμένει (η Δευτέρα θα είναι η πρώτη μας 5η ημέρα), μέσα στην βαθειά ησυχία της νύχτας (αν εξαιρέσεις κάτι εξατμίσεις αυτοκινήτων και ορισμένα ανθρώπινα ουρλιαχτά), ξεκουράζομαι επεξεργαζόμενος τα αποτελέσματα της ψηφοφορίας για το Βραβείο Κοινού Μικρού Μήκους Ταινίας… και ναι, ξέρω ποια κέρδισε, αλλά δεν θα σας πω, θα πρέπει να περιμένετε μέχρι την Τετάρτη. Θα το μάθει μόνο άλλος ένας άνθρωπος, για την περίπτωση που χωματοχωθώ μέχρι τότε. Ή τσιμεντοχωθώ, εξαρτάται ποιος είναι ο αρχιτέκτονάς σου.

…But there is a price to pay when you screen world premieres -the gods of exclusivity and of the rat race will punish you: so I must say that today’s audience is not as far-reaching (in length, if put one next to the other) as I would want them to be. Still, the second and final day of the Short Film Competition receives the attention it deserves, and the night closes with the second screening of “Shadowland”, where opinions continue to vary wildly.

In between, we have welcomed Julian Doyle, director of  “Chemical Wedding”. Julian is in a good spirits but wonders why the fellows back in England do not get the humor in his film. Tomorrow we will try to find out in the scheduled radio interview.

Later on, after the  fourth day of SFF-rated Athens 2009 has trully ended, and Terra Incognita awaits us (Monday will be our first 5th day ever), I face my laptop screen in the dead of night (give or take some car exhaustion and some human screams), and I find comfort in working out the results of the voting for the Audience Award for Best Short. And yes, I know who won -but I won’t tell you. It ‘ll have to wait until Wednesday -only one other person will learn, in case I drop dead before then. I mean, get cemented – depends on who your architect is.

Πήγε για ξε-φάντωμα και βγήκε φαντ(ασι)ωμένος: 1η μέρα του Διαγωνιστικού Τμήματος ταινιών μικρού μήκους, και το αφοσιωμένο κοινό των μικρών είναι εκεί από τις 17:30.  Ψηφίζουν και, ρίχνοντας μια ματιά στις ψήφους, νιώθω ανακούφιση: δεν συμφωνούν μαζί μου, δεν συμφωνούν μεταξύ τους, δεν συμφωνούν με τον εαυτό τους (πολλές διορθώσεις)… Ωραία -η ομοφωνία στην τέχνη είναι ύποπτη.

Μετά από 12 μικρά έρχεται η ώρα των μεγάλων:  Η “Παράταση Ζωής” από την Ουγγαρία με το ευθύ ανατολικό της στυλ και τρεις εισπράκτορες ψυχών από την Κόλαση να κυνηγούν καβάλα  την ηρωίδα, και η Παγκόσμια Πρεμιέρα μας, το WALLED IN. Προβάλλεται τρεις ημέρες πριν κυκλοφορήσει σε dvd και μαγνητίζει το κοινό.

Σήμερα καταφθάνει και η Marya Mazor, η σκηνοθέτις του μικρού The Winged Man. Μarya, πολύ χαρήκαμε που έκανες όλο αυτόν τον δρόμο για να μας δεις και θα βρεθούμε και θα τα πουμε και θα ξε-φαντώσουμε, αλλά η αποψινή νύχτα (κι ο εφιάλτης της) ανήκουν στη GRACE.

Well, it’s Saturday night and I just got paid fool about my money don’t try to save my heart says go-go have a time well it’s Saturday night and I feel fine – I’m gonna rip it up I’m gonna shake it up I’m gonna rip it up I’m gonna shake it up -at the ball tonight.

…actually it was a film festival, not a ball – but we did have a ball.

It was the first day of the Short Film Competition, and the aficionados arrived early on despite the excellent weather (excellent weather and the movies go together only in the summer). Peeking  though the votes I once more felt relieved and refreshed from the wildly varying opinions about the shorts that were screening with us. People loved them, hated them, were impressed or disgusted by them… good. Having unanimous reactions to art is suspicious.

After 12 shorts, the Features arrived: Α Herceg Haladeka (A Princely Reprieve) from Hungary opened with its straight eastern European style and three soul collectors from Hell riding their horses in hot pursuit of the heroine, and then, WALLED IN, our World Premiere, screened three days before its release in DVD and mesmerized the audience.

Saturday was also the day Marya Mazor arrived from USA, the director of the short “The Winged Man” which will screen on the last day of the Festival.

Marya, it was really nice of you to make all this distance, and we are really glad to have you here, and we will meet and talk and have a ball, but, tonight, the night (and the nightmare) belong to GRACE.
